Cathedral of Sea and Sky I

Cathedral of Sea and Sky I

The title of this piece was influenced by Joey Ramone from the American punk band the Ramones. The musician once said to Alex that being at the beach and immersed in nature was “the Church of the Blue Sky”.

He is also inspired by abstract artists such as Morris Louis (Bernstein), Barnett Newman and Agnes Martin.

Alex says: “Stripes are an iconic, graphic machine in our consciousness and in the world of art. The stripe is natural and automatic: it appeals to us all at some instinctual level.”
