Working side-by-side in the studio with his daughter over the summer of 2018 led to the charming new works from Paul Corfield. Beginning with a sketch and a sepia wash, the painter then applies oils to make the colours of his rolling hills stand out. Originally starting as a night scene, Paul then painted two versions before trying out the arrangement of the sun setting in the distance.
Speaking on this piece, Paul says: "The night versions were some of my favourites from anything I’ve ever painted so it was great to have another opportunity to reimagine the scene. I particularly like how the area of clouds around the sun came out as they were a bit of an experiment half-way through the painting."
