Richard says: "With ‘The Last Goodbye’ I had an idea of using gold leaf in one of my works to try and recreate the feeling and image of warm sunlight. For the original of this piece, before painting, I laid pieces of gold leaf directly to the canvas in the places where I thought the warm sunlight would reflect through the blinds in the window."
