Cute as Buttons
Roxy Winterburn's latest instalment from her Circle of Life collection explores relationships within families; a theme that is close to all of our hearts after such a turbulent year in lockdown. This adorable bronze sculpture is inspired by a barn owl that the artist has seen in the barn across the field from where she lives, often spotted protecting her sleeping baby.
Taking its title from The Lion King, Roxy’s debut collection with Castle Fine Art is a stylised representation of the animals which inspired her as a young girl. Creating all of her bronze sculptures at the family foundry, Roxy spends her days sculpting, making lost-wax casts, welding and chasing (a method of hammering the bronze). As she creates her own patinas, the finish of each sculpture is slightly unique.
Roxy adds: “Animals are there for you no matter what. There is always a love there from both sides. I would love people to feel a connection to the characters I have created. I want people to see them and want to give them a loving home.” Find out more about Roxy Winterburn and her sculpting journey here.
This heart-warming 2021 collection by Roxy also features 'Sugar and Spice' and 'Pride and Joy'. Each artwork is hand-cast in bronze and the fulfilment time is 12-16 weeks.
