Artist Steve Winterburn said the following about the stag sculpture;
"I wanted to start the stag because a lot of the work I do is showing the prowess of animals from around the world, I wanted to portray the biggest and most iconic of our wildlife here in the UK.
There was also the spiritual connection, for thousands of years the stag has been tied to myth and legend in our culture and being able to express this through my medium of sculpture was something I’d always wanted to do.
When I’ve seen stags over the years, with their regal elegance and aura you can’t help but be in awe and feel the connection we have with these beautiful animals."
